My favourite Mumbai Indians had failed to qualify for IPL
playoffs and my 2nd favourite for the season Hyderabad had clinched
the title.
Bernie had only a theoretical probability of clinching
democratic nomination and no real chance after months of campaign that defied
all odds.
Season 3 of The 100 was over with a stimulating ending that
still keeps my mind at work.
5 episodes of Game of thrones was already over with plot
moving along at a breakneck speed unlike any previous seasons.
Netflix’s movie library for Indian market increasingly looks
stale and TV shows’ library too seems heading that way.
I had returned to Chennai after visiting my wife and boy in
her mom’s place.
It was the middle of the week starting 23rd May.
I felt that I don’t have much to look forward to that week and thought to
myself, why not return to Reading books and writing.
I have not read anything fresh in close to 2 years. I have
not bought a new book in close to 2 years. Not buying books may have to do with
the fact that I still would like to go to a shop and buy it than order it
online. May be because the Landmark outlet in spencer plaza was closed. May be I
thought why keep adding them to the then mess of my bachelor room and also not
reading them at all. Yes, there are plenty of books that I have bought over years
among which many are yet to be read and they sleep in a proper shelf now. The
last new novel that I read of Archer, one of my favourites, was “Only time will
Tell” released in 2011. Since then he had published 5 more books in the “The
Clinton Chronicles” series and the last instalment is coming this November (Research
for this post J)
and I haven’t even bothered to know anything about them. However, I have gone
back to ever charismatic Kane and Abel series’, quintessentially ingenious Not
a penny more Not a penny less and few more. There are few that I have been
trying to get a move on since my undergraduate days (more than 10 years) like War and Peace & Les Misérables. When I couldn’t
complete them during the times I was managing 1 book a day they did not even a
stand a chance in last 2 years.
Going back to reading may take time. So I have decided to
start writing again. But I haven’t even put down a fresh story in nearly a
year. My last published blog post was in 2011. I was meaning to write a
follow-up for “The One and The Same”, my only complete short story, but that
never happened. I am sure the few thoughts that I had for the follow-up lies
somewhere safe in my hard disk. Despite the background sitting down to write
seems easier than reading.
Now that I have decided to write, I hope to be more frequent
than ever before. One or two post a year is never a tough competition to be bested.
I do not have specific things or a calendar in mind. Once in a while, I may
even complete a short story that is worthy of reading.
Since the day I had decided to type this down,
Game of Thrones has finished in an extraordinary high. HRC is in all purpose,
the presumptive democratic nominee for presidential election. Netflix has added
couple of lacklustre original films and few good original and syndicated TV
shows. I still think about The 100. My son has grown to be 4 months old. Swathi’s
killer has been apprehended. Good Job by TN police.
Have a Great week :)
